Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-09-18
The short version: Framekeep does not collect, store, or share any personal data. It has no account, no analytics, and no advertising, and the Mac App Store edition has no network access. Your captures, recordings, and the text recognized in them stay on your Mac unless you choose to share them.
1. Who we are
Framekeep (the "app") is published by Norstride Inc., Cheyenne, WY 82001, USA ("we," "us"). This policy covers Framekeep as distributed on the Mac App Store. You can reach us at [email protected].
2. What the app collects
Nothing. The Mac App Store edition runs in Apple's App Sandbox without permission to connect to the internet, so it cannot send information to us or to anyone else. We cannot see your captures, your recordings, your history, or how you use the app.
3. Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Why the app asks | Where the data stays |
|---|---|---|
| Screen & System Audio Recording | Required to take screenshots and screen recordings, and to record system audio when you turn it on. | On your Mac. |
| Camera | Only for the optional webcam bubble in recordings, which is off by default. | In the recording you make, on your Mac. |
| Microphone | Only when you turn on microphone audio for a recording. | In the recording you make, on your Mac. |
| Pictures folder and folders you choose | To save your captures. By default they go to Pictures ▸ Framekeep; you can pick another folder in Settings. | The folder you chose. |
You can turn any permission off in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security. Features that need it stop working until you turn it back on.
4. What happens on your Mac
Text recognition, detection of potentially sensitive details (email addresses, phone numbers, card numbers, API keys and tokens, IP addresses, and faces), and search all run on your Mac. Automatic detection helps you find sensitive details, but it can miss things, so review your captures before sharing them.
To work, the app keeps the following on your Mac:
- the screenshots and recordings you save, as ordinary files in your save folder;
- a history index listing your captures and the text recognized in them, so search works;
- for recordings, the pointer positions and clicks captured during the recording, used only to produce effects such as automatic zoom and a smoother pointer when you export;
- your settings, shortcuts, and presets.
None of this is sent to us. You control how long history is kept: in Settings you can keep it forever (the default) or limit it to between one week and one year. Captures older than the limit are moved to the Trash. Your captures are ordinary files, so you can also delete them yourself at any time.
5. When you share or copy
When you share a capture through the macOS share menu (for example AirDrop, Mail, or Messages), it goes where you send it and is then governed by that service's terms and privacy policy. Copied captures and text go to your Mac's clipboard. Before sharing or copying, Framekeep can check the capture for sensitive details and let you review and redact them; you can change this in Settings ▸ Privacy.
6. Purchases
Framekeep is free on the Mac App Store and does not require an account.
7. Links to our website
Links in the app open in your web browser. Visiting norstride.com, including this page, is covered by the Norstride website Privacy Policy.
8. Children
The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
9. Changes to this policy
If a future version of the app changes what it collects, we will update this policy before that version is released and change the effective date above. The current version always lives at https://norstride.com/apps/framekeep/privacy/.
